DESCRIPTION:With a non-stop performance schedule for over 55 years\, Roomful of Blues has earned their reputation as one of the best blues bands ever! DOORS OPEN 3:30PM \n\n\n\nEven though Roomful of Blues’ lineup has changed over the years\, the band has always been one of the tightest\, most joyful blues ensembles in the world. Currently an eight-piece unit led by guitarist Chris Vachon\, the band has never sounded fresher or stronger. In 2010\, singer Phil Pemberton took over the vocal duties\, bringing his sweet and soulful vocals and adding another bright new dimension to the jazzy\, jump-blues musical roots. Their winning combination of jump\, swing\, blues\, R&B and soul remains their calling card\, as does their ability to fill the dance floor. With the veteran lineup of bassist John Turner\, trumpeter Carl Gerhard\, drummer Mike Coffey\, keyboardist Rusty Scott\, Alek Razdan baritone and tenor sax and tenor and alto saxophonist Rich Lataille\, Roomful keeps on rockin’ in 2023!

SUMMARY:37th Annual International Blues Challenge • Memphis\, TN
DESCRIPTION:The International Blues Challenge (IBC) represents the worldwide search for those Blues Bands and Solo/Duo Blues Acts ready to perform on the international stage\, yet just needing that extra big break. The IBC is held annually in late January in Memphis\, TN along historic Beale Street. There is also a Youth Showcase. \n\n\n\nAs an affiliate of The Blues Foundation\, CRBN has the right to send a band\, a solo/duo act and a youth act to represent our organization at the IBC. Each year we stage live regional preliminary IBC competitions to determine which acts will represent us at the Challenge in Memphis. \nThe IBC is judged by blues professionals from across the world who have years of experience in listening to\, producing\, and creating blues music. The IBC is held annually in late January in Memphis\, TN along historic Beale Street. There is also a Youth Showcase. \nAs an affiliate of The Blues Foundation\, CRBN has the right to send a band\, a solo/duo act and a youth act to represent our organization at the IBC. Each year we stage live regional preliminary IBC competitions to determine which acts will represent us at the Challenge in Memphis. \nThe IBC is judged by blues professionals from across the world who have years of experience in listening to\, producing\, and creating blues music. He cut his blues teeth performing with The Jelly Roll Kings. His recording career has led him through a number of studios from Memphis and Clarksdale to tours all over the world. This Delta born guitarist\, singer and songwriter’s style is just the opposite of his demeanor. Lonnie comes across as a mild mannered southern gentleman with a laid back nature. On stage he is transformed into an extraordinary entertainer moving to his music and feeding off the energy of the audience. His music is deeply rooted in gospel\, soul and R&B while his sound\, like his soul is never too far from the home of the blues.\nLonnie was the first Delta artist that Rooster blues picked up after moving to Clarksdale\, Mississippi in 1987. \nHis CD “Portrait” was released in 1992 (named Album of the Year by Living Blues Magazine) and reads like a who’s who of Delta Blues Performers. Over the years\, Lonnie has played with many Blues greats including Elvin Bishop\, Sam Carr\, Sonny Rhodes\, Eddie Shaw and Big Jack Johnson just to name a few. In the years following his release of “Portrait” Lonnie’s career skyrocketed. He has performed all over the world and has released a string of impressive CDs featuring his soulful\, “down home Blues” with a contemporary\, yet juke-joint feel. \nLonnie’s hard work has paid in a fine compilation of music and a reputation of a man with the heart and soul of the Blues. Lonnie now resides just outside of Philadelphia\, Pennsylvania but always has and always will be the Keeper of The Blues wherever he lays his guitar. Join us for an evening of incredible Blues and help 3 local blues artists on their way to Memphis Tennessee to represent our region in the reknown International Blues Challenge! This special benefit show will feature performances from all three acts. Proceeds from the show will help the acts cover their expenses for the trip to Memphis.
